On 18th August 2021, IUMI organized a virtual meeting in which GI council officials and marine underwriters of member companies from India participated.
Mr Richard Turner, President, Mr Lars Lange, Secretary-General and Ms Hendrike Kuhl, Policy Director, participated from the IUMI. The meeting was part of IUMI's initiative to reach out to member associations individually for intensive interaction.
Emphasizing the importance of Asian markets and with particular reference to India, Mr Richard Turner gave a presentation on IUMI activities, including the education program, which was one of the most significant focuses of IUMI. Mr Lars Lange spoke on the importance of constant interaction with members to know and understand the different market realities and current issues.
Mr MN Sarma, Secretary-General, General Insurance Council, spoke about the Indian market, the problems in the marine insurance sector, its low visibility because of volume and the impact of the pandemic on the Indian market. He requested IUMI executives to focus on improving the quality of marine surveyors also amongst other things. He thanked IUMI executives for making time for this interaction amid hectic activity for the forthcoming Seoul conference.

It was a well-attended meeting with around thirty participants consisting of marine underwriters of the member companies, IUMI and Council officials.
