MADHULIKA BHASKAR

DEPUTY SECRETARY

Ms. Bhaskar started her career with the General Insurance Corporation (GIC Re) the largest Reinsurance company in India (and within 15^th largest globally) having a Gross premium income of INR 45 to 50,000 crores and having business relationship with more than 150 countries globally. Her vast experience with the Company covers working in a tariff environment, market agreements, de-tariffication era, market opening up to private players and  issuance of Company’s IPO.

She started her career as a direct recruit officer in March 1988 and retired as Director & General Manager in June 2023 after 35 years long service. During these 35 years, she has held key positions of Chief Risk Officer (CRO), Financial Advisor, Chief Information and Security Officer (CISO), Chief of Internal Audit and Chief Underwriter. She has overseen operations of Reinsurance Underwriting, Claims processing, Protection purchase, IT, ERM, Audit, Budgeting, RTI, Secretarial matters, Grievances, Company’s Foreign operations; Reinsurance Pools; including short duration exposure to Investment operations & accounts and Estate/Establishment amongst others.

For 6 months period, she spearheaded the Operations at New India Assurance Company Ltd., the  India’s largest Non-Life Insurance Company as Acting Chairman & Managing Director. Despite a very short tenure, she had mentionable achievements to her credit viz. getting audit qualification dropped, getting the company back on track form the bleeding health portfolio, streamlining numerous operations, diplomatically handling the trade unions who were fighting a bitter battle for their delayed wage revision

She takes great interest in sharing her rich experience and thus keep close association with academics through her assignments as visiting faculty with National Insurance Academy, Pune; Insurance Institute of India, Mumbai; IRDAI; and other management institutes of repute. She has also taken academic classes at Egypt, Sudan and Singapore.

She has been a Speaker, Panelist and Moderator at various national and international seminars and conferences on Insurance, Reinsurance, and Risk Management. She has to her credit many articles published in insurance journals and periodicals, and has travelled the globe extensively for marketing and as a visiting faculty.

She is a Master of Science, in Microbiology from the University of Mumbai a Fellow of the Insurance institute of India and holder of a Diploma in Computer Management from University of Mumbai

During her tenure she has handled some noteworthy positions viz:

• Non-Executive Director, Stock Holding Corporation of India
• Non-Executive Director, GIC Re South Africa Ltd.
• Non-Executive Director, GIC Perstrakhovanie, LLC Moscow, (guided the Company during the geo-political crises)
• Deputy President of Council, Insurance Institute of India 
• Member of Working Groups and Task Force on Reinsurance constituted by IRDAI Member
• Board of Education Insurance Institute of India
• Member of Examination Committee; Administration Committee; Audit Review Committee; College Advisory Committee at the Insurance Institute of India.

She is working with the General Insurance Council as Deputy Secretary from 2^nd May 2024

P SASHIDHARAN NAIR

Consultant Property and Misc, Insurance

Mr. Nair has rich experience of over 39 years with 33 years in the general insurance industry.  Mr Nair began his career in the general insurance industry in 1985 when he joined The New India Assurance Co Ltd. His tenure at New India Assurance till 2004 enabled him to handle various portfolios which include business development, Underwriting and Claims of various Lines of Business, Office Administration and Recruitment. Mr Nair had a brief stint with K M Dastur & Co (Insurance Brokers) LLC, Dubai in 2004, before joining HDFC Chubb/Ergo General Insurance in 2005. Mr. Nair also served the GI Council for three years on deputation from HDFC Ergo handling various issues and coordination with IRDAI and the Department of Financial Services. At HDFC Ergo, Mr. Nair was National Head for Litigation Claims heading a team of 10 Legal Officers on Pan-India basis. After retiring from HDFC Ergo in September 2018, Mr Nair joined the GI Council as Consultant & Technical Advisor in January 2019.

S Skandan

Consultant Finance

S Skandan is a Chartered Accountant with over 35+ years’ experience in the Non-Life Insurance Industry. He looks after Finance, Taxation, GST matters, Industry Data and Compliance Issues.

Mr. Anupam Singh

HEAD - I.T 

He brings extensive expertise in enterprise-wide IT transformation, Policy Administration Systems (PAS), Claims Management Systems (CMS), CRM, ERP, cloud-driven architectures, and large-scale digital platforms.

Before joining the General Insurance Council, Anupam led large engineering and product delivery teams in the InsurTech sector and served as Head of IT at Universal Sompo General Insurance Company, where he managed core enterprise applications, digital channels, and multiple modernization programs. He has successfully built in-house innovation teams, driven cloud and automation initiatives, streamlined critical business processes, and implemented robust IT governance and regulatory compliance frameworks.

Anupam holds a B.Tech in Electrical & Electronics Engineering and an MBA in Information Systems. He is globally certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and AWS Certified in Data Analytics.

In his current role as Head of Information Technology at the General Insurance Council, Anupam leads the Council’s digital strategy, technology governance, and modernization initiatives. He is also responsible for coordination with IRDAI, the Ministry, and representatives from insurance companies on all IT-related projects.

HUMAYUN J. A. KHAN

Consultant  Motor and Legal

Mr Humayun Khan has more than 35 years of experience in the Banking and the General Insurance Industry. He started his career as Probationary Officer in a Bank. Later, in the year 1988, he joined United India Insurance Co. Ltd. Since then, he has worked at various levels, pan India, handling almost all general insurance departments including Motor Own Damage, Motor Third Party and Legal. During his tenue as Chief Manager, Motor Own Damage, MISP & National level Motor tie-ups at the Company’s Head Office in Chennai, he also led the team for development of new motor insurance products.

 Humayun is keen on academics and a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of India. He has been a regular faculty and organizer of various training programmes and workshops within the industry. He joined GI Council in December 2022.

Ms. Pratibha Jadhav

Consultant – HR, Marine U/W & Claims

Ms. Pratibha Jadhav is a General Insurance Professional with vast years of experience in marine, miscellaneous, property, and Mediclaim insurance including Group Mediclaim insurance. She was directly recruited by GIC in 1988 and later she moved to United India. She was the branch manager of Direct Agents branch in 2000 & because of her leadership, the branch was converted soon into a divisional office. She has worked as Insurance head & Vice president in insurance broking firms. She is academically inclined as well as she has done LLM as also MBA.Ms Pratibha passed LLM in international law with the highest score in 1992 & was awarded a cash prize by the University of Mumbai.  Ms. Jadhav was the faculty at the University of Mumbai for postgraduate Insurance Courses for 5 years.  Ms. Jadhav is a Fellow in General Insurance. Ms. Pratibha loves to learn languages and she is an expert at French.  Ms. Pratibha Jadhav is handling HR & Marine insurance at GI Council. She joined GI Council in November 2023.  

Ms.Vasudha Rao

Consultant Hit and Run 

Ms. Vasudha Rao joined the GI Council in November 2023. Ms. Rao has had a stint in New India Assc. Co. Ltd for nearly 16 years. From December 2020 till October 2023, she worked at the Office of the Insurance Ombudsman for Mumbai & Goa as a specialist ( Non-life ). She is a science graduate as also a law graduate from the University of Mumbai. She is Fellow in  General Insurance. In the GI Council, she has been handling Hit & Run claims and the GI Council website & newsletter as a Consultant, Motor.

K N Venkataraman

EA to Secretary General

Mr. Venkataraman is associated with the G I Council since January 2013 as Executive Assistant to the Secretary General. He has more than 25 years’ work experience across various sectors, namely, paint manufacturing, Import-Export trade, Advertising & PR, Social development sector and a two year stint in Durban, South Africa in the knitted garments industry. At the Council, he looks after all the communication and administrative requirements of the Secretary General and plays a key role in the smooth functioning of the Council Secretariat.
