IUMI Asia Forum 2022 concludes after two days of intense discussions on marine insurance

The IUMI Asia Forum 2022 in Mumbai concluded on 2nd June 2022. General Insurance Council hosted the event in partnership with the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) on 1-2 June at Hotel Trident. It was a huge success with over 200 delegates apart from the speakers and guests attending the conference.

Before the Asia Forum, IUMI's Executive Committee met in Mumbai on 31st May, emphasizing the region's growing importance for marine insurers.

During the IUMI Asia Forum on 1-2 June, the eminent speakers from India and abroad discussed essential topics related to ESG, Digitalization, Geo-Political Crisis in Ukraine, Sanctions implication on Russia, Global shipping trends and the shape of Indian Marine and Insurance Market, the importance of Marine Insurance Education, Risk management of Project Cargo, Awareness and possible Solutions for Cyber Risks and Maritime India Vision 2030.

Mr M.N. Sarma (GIC), Richard Turner (IUMI), Shailesh Haribhakti (CA), Saurabh Mishra (Jt Secretary DFS) and Jayakumar (Nautical Advisor to GOI)chaired the opening session on the 1st June.

IUMI Asia 2022 was the largest in-person event held post-pandemic for the Marine Insurance market in Asia to come together and discuss issues of common interest. Due to pandemic travel restrictions, many delegates from China, Japan and Hong Kong could not attend the program. However, still, there were a few delegates from other Asian countries like Dubai, Thailand and Singapore. The conference reflected the determination of marine insurance professionals to make marine insurance an integral part of India's growth journey, adopting best global practices and supporting the growing needs of Indian manufacturers and traders.
