G I Council hosted the Spring 2017 EC Meeting of the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) in Hotel Taj Mahal & Palace, Apollo Bunder, Mumbai on 17^th May 2017. Seizing this opportunity, the G I Council held  a Marine Insurance Conference on the theme “Marine Insurance in India – Circumstances, Chances and Challenges” on Thursday, 18^th May 2017 at the same venue. The EC members of IUMI  participated in this Conference and updated the Indian market on the international scenario. G I Council invited all the stakeholders in the Marine insurance sector, namely, senior officials from the Ministry of Shipping, Mumbai Port Trust, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust,  Shipping Corporation of India and many other experts, including legal experts, Surveyors & Marine Loss Assessors and other representatives from Marine Trade Associations and marine insurance customers.

 Invitation to attend the Conference was also extended to all the Underwriters and other officials of the insurance companies handling Marine insurance portfolio. This event  showcased marine insurance expertise that is available in India and also attempted to take a holistic view of the current scenario, market potential and challenges that are being faced by various segments of the market.

 The Chief Guest of the function was Dr (Mrs) Malini Shankar, Director General of Shipping. The Guest of Honour was Mr P J Joseph, Member (Non-life), IRDAI.
