The 112th General Insurance Council meeting was held on 19 Jan 2023 at Chambers, Orchid Hotel, Vile Parle (East), Mumbai. 34 members attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Mr Anjan Dey, Chairman, GI Council. Prior to that Executive Committee meeting also took place at the same venue.
Amongst various other industry issues, the update on Regulations Review Committee (RRC), Corporatization of IIB, proposed amendments to the Insurance Act, 1938 and review of Council Byelaws were also discussed in detail. The GI Council Yearbook for the financial year 2021-22 was formally released. Meeting ended with a warm send-off to the outgoing Secretary General (SG) Mr MN Sarma and the Chairman Mr Anjan Dey.
The Selection Committee of the EC have identified Mr Inderjeet Singh (GM & Director, GIC Re) for the position of SG. Mr Singh joined the industry in 1986 as a direct recruit officer. He was the GM (NL) in Kenindia in Nairobi and later he was the MD of Kenindia for 3 years.
Mr Tapan Singhel, MD & CEO of Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Co. has been elected the new Chairman of the General Insurance Council. The vacancy caused by exit of Mr Anjan Dey is filled up by Ms. Neerja Kapur, CMD, New India Assurance. The 4 elected Executive Committee members are now as follows:
