In this issue, we highlight how India’s insurance sector advanced with the $100 million Bharat Marine Pool, offering war-risk coverage to strengthen maritime protection. On the policy side, we feature perspectives on how customer experience in India’s private insurance sector has evolved over the past 25 years, and how MSMEs can strengthen fire claim preparedness by addressing underinsurance and documentation. In the consumer awareness section, articles emphasise the growing importance of emotional intelligence in general insurance and dispel common myths around health insurance. Globally, we explore how the Middle East conflict is reshaping the marine insurance risk landscape, and how South Korea is introducing a new EV fire liability insurance scheme to cover third-party damage.

Insurance Leads India’s Consumer Complaints Surge,Data Shows
India’s consumer dispute redressal system is coming under mounting pressure, with the insurance sector emerging as the single largest contributor to grievances, reflecting deeper structural issues in claims processing and customer servicing. Recent government consumer redressal data shows that insurance accounts for nearly a quarter of all consumer cases across forums, underscoring its growing role in shaping the country’s dispute landscape even as overall pendency continues to rise sharply
Looking beyond the ongoing West Asia crisis, which has severely paralysed global maritime trade and as a permanent measure, the Government and the Indian general insurers, led by state owned GIC Re and the general insurers have stitched up a $100 million(around Rs 940 crore) Bharat Marine Pool, that would manage the war risk for vessels. The purpose of the new pool, with a substantial capacity,is to provide a permanent platform, which can provide covers with cheaper premiums and reduce dependence on overseas reinsurance capacity, which are either not available or available with unaffordable cost, the time of war-time emergencies

Advancing a Unified Health Insurance Ecosystem
The Health vertical at GI Council is a newly formed and ambitious initiative designed to drive structural transformation across India's health insurance landscape. Recognizing the fragmented nature of the current ecosystem — marked by inconsistent processes, administrative redundancies, and limited stakeholder alignment — this vertical has been established with a clear mandate.
